Christmas Eve and it’s Rodenbach and cheese time. Ever since drinking Grand Cru in Belgium with those little chunks of cheese that they seem to serve in all the bars, this is a combination I love.
This one is the ‘Vintage 2012′, oak barrel aged (from barrel 170 apparently), in a good looking 750ml bottle. Popping the cork and pouring produces a brief head, but it soon disappears to leave just the reddish brown beer.
The aroma is quite sweet and acetic with a bit of dried stone fruit. On tasting the flavours are quite subtle. Theres light oakiness and quite a soft sourness, almost sour cherry. There’s a bit of rum in there as well.
This and my bowl of cheese should see me through the evening!
