This is the second Rodenbach in my 12 beers, but this one is a little different to the last. Caractere Rouge is aged for 2 years in oak barrels, but then gets 6 months on cherries, raspberries and cranberries.
There’s a good pop when the cork comes out and it pours with plenty of fizz… the head very quickly disappears without trace though. In the glass it’s a ruddy brown colour, giving a hint to the red fruits it’s been sat on.
The aroma is thick with cherry, reminds me of pinot noir. Tasting it gives more cherry to accompany the aroma, but also tart raspberry. Carbonation is just right, giving it a good body and mouthfeel. The cranberries really come through towards the finish, leaving quite a dryness as well.
Overall this is a really good beer… one I’ll definitely be looking out for in the future.
